The American Medical Association and the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology have set forth “The Guidelines for Adolescent Preventive Services (GAPS),” which are designed to:
- Advocate safety and injury prevention, physical fitness, healthy eating habits, and healthy sexual adjustment of teenage girls
- Help young women and parents deal with the issue of drugs, alcohol, smoking, and learning problems
- Help identify risk behaviors and address these concerns within the context of a doctor/patient relationship
