Ultrasound

Receiving an ultrasound is typically the most anticipated part of a mother’s prenatal experience! Ultrasounds not only give a sneak peek of the baby but provide your doctors the opportunity to check the progress of your baby’s growth and development.

At OB/GYN Associates of Alabama, we understand each mother has different goals and desires. While some patients can’t wait to discover the sex of their baby, others wish to be surprised. Our qualified team offers extensive options for ultrasounds so that we can monitor your health and pregnancy while providing the prenatal information that you may desire.

Our Ultrasound Services

Our team at OB/GYN Associates of Alabama is proud to be one of the few systems in Alabama to offer the latest in ultrasound technology. Our digitally enhanced ultrasound system provides images of outstanding detail and clarity, ease of operation for faster procedures, and an innovative design for added patient comfort.

In addition to standard ultrasounds, we also offer:

Early Gender Scan

This ultrasound utilizes state-of-the-art technology to determine your baby’s gender as early as 12 weeks gestation. Our highly qualified sonographers know exactly what to look for to learn the sex of a baby.

3D and 4D Ultrasound

A 3D image is growing in popularity, especially for parents who wish to see what their baby looks like before birth. Not only do 3D images show more clarity for facial features, but they are useful in noting any abnormalities. Additionally, a 4D image is similar to a live-action video of your little one.

Ultrasound FAQs

Ultrasound is energy in the form of sound waves. By reflecting off internal organs and being “read” by scanners, the sound waves create pictures of internal organs. These sound waves are not harmful to you or your baby! Instead, ultrasounds help doctors identify the health and progress of your pregnancy.

Most pregnant women receive two ultrasounds, one ultrasound in the first trimester and one in the second trimester. However, your doctor may recommend additional ultrasounds if any abnormalities or complications are detected.

Typically, your first ultrasound will take place between seven and twelve weeks. When you schedule your initial appointment with your doctor at OB/GYN Associates of Alabama, we’ll work with you to schedule and perform your ultrasounds at the weeks that work best for you.
