You might want to consider working from a standing desk if possible. If you spend a lot of time sitting around at your kids’ activities, walk around as much as you can during the idle time. Can you walk around the block, a track, or building? Maybe there are steps to climb. Even standing up while watching your daughter’s dance class as opposed to sitting helps.
Turn your home into a gym
You probably spend a lot of time on the couch or in bed when you’re at home. But, why not turn your home into a weight-loss sanctuary? There are so many ways you can exercise at home! To build muscle, keep sets of hand weights in various corners of the house. Whenever you go to the bathroom, do a set or two of arm exercises with your free weights. When cooking, do push ups using your kitchen counter instead of sitting at the kitchen table waiting for water to boil. Legs lifts, squats, and shorts bursts of high-intensity movement can be added to your routine while you do chores around the house.
Be more active at work
If you feel like you don’t have time to be more active because you spend all day at the office, think again. There are several ways to move more when it comes to long hours at the workplace. Park far away from the entrance and walk the extra distance. Take the stairs instead of the elevator. Walk, bike or take public transport to work if at all possible. Sand up to stretch throughout the day, and go talk to a colleague instead of sending an email.
During your lunch break, walk around the building or climb up and down stairs. The more you move at work, the more productive you’ll be. Moving the body encourages blood flow to the brain, so it’s a win-win for your body, mind, and productivity.
